Diehard – Scum And Villainy

                          Scum And Villainy!

This campaign will allow Diehard Miniatures to expand upon our very popular Sci-Fi ‘Bad Guys’ range, the aim is to bring 43+ new metal figures including freebies!

The campaign has been split into two Kickstarters this being the Scum and Villainy release (the Law campaign was run at the start of the year).

Diehard Miniatures will once again release a limited edition figure, Mildred the Mohawk Maniac!

Mildred the Mohawk Maniac our Limited Edition figure will be sculpted during the KS with wips to be shown as it progresses.

We aim to fund:

  • Nine new 5-man foot troop units – 45 new miniatures!!
  • FIVE free miniatures –  up to 5 free familiars for our higher backers.
  • A brand new Limited Edition figure – Mildred the Mohawk Maniac!
  • AND an opportunity to pick up existing units from the Diehard range that complement this release at a discount.

This Diehard KS is slightly different from our previous campaign, we have tweaked our  Freebie giveaways to give early backers a chance to grab a bargain with their pledge, unlike last time when it was a limited number we have gone for a three-day early bird window. This means you have 3 days to select an ‘Early Bird’ pledge to get the best bargains which we think is fairer for those not living in the same time zone where the project is launched from.

Anyone using an Early Bird Pledge or backing at the ‘Three Amigos’ level of £60 will get freebies, the higher the pledge the more free stuff!

Diehard Miniatures aims to continue to bring Old School to the tabletop with high-quality designs and sculpts with your help we can do this!

This new release will help populate the Diehard world of Luskia 5120

Mankind’s Folly. The push for resources and a greater dominance in the outer regions of space brought them to a planet they designated 5120, the survey team found what they were after in the mountains and plains regions, and so the mining guild staked their claims on the planet. Initial mineral-based findings were found to have been greatly exaggerated, both through official corruption and the exploration team. Because of this Luskia 5120 was quickly downgraded, and within 30 years the minerals rush had moved on, leaving the planet open for others to colonise.

Being on the very edge of known space the uptake was very slow. Always on the lookout for new places, however the smugglers, pirates and people who did not want to be found started to arrive. It was shortly after that the Void swallowed up the planet and it would not release its grip for more than 1000 years. During this period time ran differently and where you were mattered greatly to how you were affected, the planet’s time was split, and those within the mountains were somehow protected it was only 10 to 15 years passed before the planet was returned but those living outside this protection felt the full brunt of the Void, cities rose and fell, populations lived and died as time ran longer.

If this sounds unfair then it was nothing compared to the fates of those that were in orbit when the phenomenon struct, having no way to break free of the Void the crews of the ships had limited options and with only so much food and power they one by one opted to go into stasis pods with the hope that they could out sleep what was occurring. Not everything slept on the ships though, bacteria and pests that were left to their own devices grew and mutated over many many years, each ship a petri dish and the stasis pod occupants the nutrient gel on which to grow. Once the Void released the planet and the now space hulks that orbited the first rescue teams and salvagers were sent from the planet not knowing what they would find….

OUR FUNDING-LEVEL FIGURES SCULPTED, CAST AND READY TO BUY!

How Pledges Work

Example: Bill chooses the ‘Early Bird’ Deadly Duo pledge level this gets him 2 units of his choice from the funding level options (though he can change the units for any unlocked unit which has been released during the campaign if he so wishes).

Bill also receives a freebie Familiar of his choice as well. At any point during the campaign if he wishes to upgrade his pledge because he wanted more units he can do this by simply changing his pledge or going into his pledge manager and increasing the funds to match the extra items cost.

Once the campaign ends Bill will receive his survey so he can tell us what he would like, at this stage if he wishes to purchase more units he needs only fill out the survey including the extra items. Diehard will then go through the survey and send a PM with information on how those extra items can be paid for.

Now some of you may have noticed that two of our released units cost £40 each, the Guardian Armour and Sharkmen units. Ordinarily, single Guardian Armours could be bought for £12 each and Sharks at £8.50 but we wanted to release full units of them. £20 would be too low a price for such large figures so we’ve had to set them as a ‘double unit’, anyone wanting to buy the larger unit would basically be using two of their regular unit choices so if Bill chose a Sharkman or Guardian unit for his Early Bird Deadly Duo pledge this would be his unit option along with the freebie Familiar figure. I hope that makes sense, you will be making a £20 saving buying the Guardians as a unit as opposed to individual models 🙂

Add Ons

Add-ons can be found towards the bottom of the page and will show what figures are available to add to a pledge. Keep an eye on the add-ons during the campaign as stretch goals unlock, the released items will then be available to purchase in the ‘Add On’ section.

E-Corp and Krupps agents negotiate with extreme prejudice!

The figures below are from Diehard Miniatures’ existing range and can be added to your pledge as either a new purchase or swapped out for a funding-level unit.

Tim Prow has over 30 years of experience as a professional miniature sculptor. Starting out at Games Workshop as a miniature painter on the Eavy Metal Team in 1989, he was first introduced to sculpting, there he learnt his craft and never looked back. Tim works as a freelance sculptor primarily but has worked in-house for both Ral Partha and Wizkids. Some of his more recent work has seen him producing for Mantic, Reaper Miniatures, Mierce, Avatars of War, and Osprey. He has also sculpted for toy companies outside of the gaming industry and produced figures for licensed properties such as Marvel, DC, and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX to name a few.

As a founding member of Diehard Miniatures Tim Prow has continued growing the company and adding freelance artists and contributors to the Diehard team. Since 2014 Tim has run 10 successful KS campaigns, runs the Diehard stand at the Salute trade show and works behind the counter at Diehard Miniatures webstore!

Award-winning artist, native Texan and scented candle enthusiast, Kennon spent his early childhood chasing armadillos and drawing dinosaurs.  Introduced to Dungeons & Dragons, Star Wars, and Rankin-Bass’ The Hobbit, all in 1977 (a very big year), Kennon has spent the time since drawing spaceships, goblins and more dinosaurs.  Contributing his work to a wide variety of projects over many different genres, Kennon’s roots and passion always bring him back to the tabletop and RPG industry.  When not playing board games or waiting for football season to start, Kennon can be found painting miniatures, playing Gears of War, or writing about himself in the third person. He lives in the massive megalopolis of Hutto, Texas with his wife, kids and ginormous TV.

Shipping will be charged after the Kickstarter based on the actual costs. This will be collected via the pledge manager after the campaign ends. Calculating shipping this way is fairer to all backers and easier for me to work out. By not including shipping in the pledge level, it also means you can concentrate on the stretch goals! As a rough estimate, the ‘Spawn Brothers’ pledge level will cost UK £4.70, EU £10, USA and Canada £12, and Australia and New Zealand £13 (this may vary depending on how many Freebie stretch goals are unlocked). Shipping for the rest of the world will be calculated on a country-by-country basis. All parcels are tracked and insured. If you have any questions, please ask away, we are only too happy to help! Pick Up: If you live in and around Nottingham (UK) and want to save on shipping you can pop into the company HQ and take possession of your goodies for free!

Risks and challenges

Following our successful Kickstarters a lot has been learnt, what works has been kept, and new ideas added. Keeping it small and simple is key to the sth running of the Diehard Miniatures KS. So we have again tried to complete as much of the sculpts and master moulding as we can before launch. I have already had our metal casters set aside casting time so we can quickly get a head start on production as this campaign is underway. I will keep our backers in the loop with frequent updates throughout the run of this new Kickstarter project. All of our production and packing/shipping will take place in Nottingham, England, home to possibly the world’s largest miniatures manufacturing hub.

Reusability and recyclability

Metal castings are thoroughly cleaned and any waste and scraps are collected and sent back to the casters to be melted down and reused.

Environmentally friendly factories

Diehard has always had a policy of recycling as much packaging as possible and reducing plastic waste. To this end all pledges come without plastic bases, after consulting with backers it was decided early on that most customers preferred to use their own bases and so to save on waste and extra weight in parcels Diehard do not supply these. Any savings we have from this we put back into product design and making our range as cost-effective as we can. We also reuse undamaged packaging that arrives at the office where possible, so a good 10-15% of our pledges will be in these reused boxes and envelopes. Anything we can do to help cut down on waste Diehard Miniatures will endeavour to do.
